World AIDS Day

Today is the day when all bloggers are supposed to address AIDS.

Don’t get AIDS.

Take care of people who have AIDS.

God doesn’t hate fags.

If you need me to expound further, it’s after the jump

Don’t get AIDS: A lot of people are having a lot more unprotected sex. Unless you’re in a monogamous relationship and both of you keep coming up negative on your HIV test for at least six months, just don’t fucking do it.

Take care of people who have AIDS: Do you have a judgment about the disease? Are you loving your afflicted brothers as much as if, say, they had cancer? If you’re infected, are you withholding any love from yourself? How can I say this in the most loving way…Get over it. And if you don’t think enough is being done regarding AIDS treatment/research/funding, you can do something, whether it’s personal or global. Write your congressman, write a letter, write a check…or find a meaningful place to volunteer yourself.

God doesn’t hate fags: Regardless of what that loveless “reverend” would say. Some gay folk in Canada had a nice way to speak up on the subject. Getting over homophobia — internalized or external — isn’t accomplished by either anger or avoidance. It’s done by getting honest about the places where we’re still unsure of our lovability — “places” inside, not places like Utah. Projecting the hate onto God is the ultimate lie. God is love. Love ain’t hate. If AIDS is how God shows his loathing of homos, why do lesbians get less AIDS than anybody? (And, no, it’s not because God likes chick-on-chick action best.)

Celebrate love today. Hug a homo.
