Speaking of “It Gets Better”

I was surprised to realize I hadn’t previously posted anything about “It Gets Better” here…I guess I did it on my Facebook wall. But Dan Savage started this project in response to the rash of gay suicides, and this particular one features many people from Broadway and New York theater. I know it’s 11 minutes of your time. But I’m so glad I spent 11 minutes of mine:

Strong Words from Dan Savage

I don’t usually post angry and indignant stuff, because I think hate fuels more hate. (Okay, I’ve had my share of rants. Shut up.) But I think Dan Savage — the man behind the beautiful “It Gets Better” campaign — addressed this very cogently in his column today:

I heard an interview with you about your It Gets Better campaign. I was saddened and frustrated with your comments regarding people of faith and their perpetuation of bullying. As someone who loves the Lord and does not support gay marriage, I can honestly say I was heartbroken to hear about the young man who took his own life.

Sing-A-Ma-Jigs.

I’ve just discovered this haunted little set of plush toys that Mattel has put out, ostensibly to make our new crop of infants accustomed to the metallic orders of their eventual Robot Overlords. Or was that Dick Cheney?

In any event, my opinion of these toys devices things has strobed from “aww” to “eww,” and now I’m not sure how I feel. But I do like the droll quality of the following: (more…)
