So You Think You Can Dance 8 — Top 18…I mean, 20 again

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

The little dance-ettes at the top of the show were done in couples this week, which at least got through it quicker. And then Cat called the boys “guys” like in past seasons, instead of “boys” — the more authentic term for male dancers — as she had done last week. I guess that was a random phenomenon, like a sighting of the comet Kahoutec. (I have a feeling nobody else on Earth remembers that reference. I even remember Burl Ives singing the theme song to that comet. I need therapy.)

Debbie Reynolds is the guest judge this week. I guess anybody who can keep up dancing with Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor in the best movie musical of all time deserves a place judging here. But let’s hope that by the end we won’t be feeling that “she…talked the whole night through.” (Another obscure reference, but not as obscure as the comet thing.) You can tell that Debbie Reynolds has a humongous gay following, because her hair and makeup make her look unbelievably not her age. Oh…now they’re showing a clip fromt he number I was just referencing. Gotta love that. (That was so NOT the best dance clip from that number.)

So You Think You Can Dance 8 — Top 20

I wonder why they finally decided to call male dancers what dancers have always called male dancers. I wonder why I’m writing two sentences about it.)

Anyhoo, I didn’t get much new info from those opening 15-second dance-lets. And Megan the Imitation-Butter Dancer Mullaly (whose favorite Karen line of mine was “On my knees in Belize,” but that’s the only Will and Grace reference for tonight) is up there being quiet next to Foghorn and Toothy.

I’ve already watched this seven times, and I can’t seem to stop. Just brilliantly funny, and Neil Patrick Harris is utterly awesome.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 8 — 6/09/11

And we’ve now met the top 20, and I’m kinda excited! I don’t know who is going to start flourishing-like-warp-speed in the coming weeks, but there are all sorts of possibilities. Not to mention a stable of choreographers who seem to be busting at the seams to express something wonderful.
