SYTYCD Season 7 — Top 8 Results

My love-hate relationship with Mia Michaels continues. Her opening “angel” number was great and crap simultaneously. But more great, especially that pas de deux that Robert did with Lauren toward the beginning. But, honey, who designed them fruity-tooty costumes? And is Billy now officially the cross-dresser of the show?

My other bone with Mia is something she semi-apologized for, and that’s the blunt gracelessness with which she criticized Adechike last night. Not that she was necessarily wrong, but it seems to me that if she hadn’t turned him into a martyr — one that voting America felt obliged to rescue — then he would’ve been in the bottom instead of Ashely. But it’s all moot anyway, what with the way things panned out.

But before I get to that, does anybody know who choreographed what the All-Stars were doing behind Natasha Bedingfield? That was pretty great (when the camera work didn’t get in the way of us seeing it). And speaking of camera work…is anybody else getting as fed up as I am about all these audience reaction shots, when contestants find out they’re saved? Jeez, Nikki Whatever, we don’t have a lot of interest in some unknown friend with a crappy sign in the audience…we want to see Robert hugging everybody and doing the happy dance. Okay?!?!

So Pasha and Anya danced, but it was a bit of a let-down, since they recreated their audition dance, and most of the greatness on this show comes as they work with the choreographers. But did you notice how the number bumped up after the first part (ostensibly the part they did at the audition)? Some of those end lifts were awesome, and that passé-to-drop that Anya did into Pasha’s arms at the end was fab.

I’m glad Nigel said that Alex is welcome to come back for the show next season. It would really be a tragedy if he didn’t get the opportunity to continue the amazing trajectory that was flourishing so fantastically on last week’s show. As it is, he really has left a mark. And I hope we get to see more of him doing what he started doing. That is a hell of a dancer, and it just goes to underline what a fragile line the dancer walks; this is a boy that seemed invincible, and even he has an Achilles’ heel.

I know we all wish him all good things. And we all selfishly want him back and dancing very soon.

It was the one and only… wait for it… no, I mean two and only… NappyTabs! They showed Tabitha applauding afterwards. That number was FUN! And Mark + Courtney + NT = happy me :D I’m SO sad about Alex. Still in a funk. I brought you a picture from Cat’s 4th of July pool party. But Cat, what is UP with the picture resolution??? http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/deadbeatclub_pix/SYTYCDS7/rawrbert.jpg

I was disappointed about Alex. I was growing to be a fav of mine. I am glad Billy was in the bottom three. I was so excited about him last year- then he got sick. This year, I would not be unhappy to see him go. I love your comment about being the cross-dresser of the show- I thought the same thing! I found this week’s shows to be kind of a let down. I hope the director, choreographers and dancers step it up this next week.
